To encounter explosive wireless traffic demands in future society of information and communication technology (ICT), 5G mobile wireless system is regarded as a revolutionary technology in both academia and industries. 5G will be an integrated networking consisting of multiple cooperative techniques. This international collaboration project aims at designing AI-Enhanced Next Generation Adaptive Localization, Tracking and Accessing for Millimeter Wave Wireless Networks, supporting future academic wireless development and industrial strategy determination. We progressively cooperate with research groups of top scholars in America, India and England to accelerate advanced technology development including B5G/6G networking and intelligent wireless positioning system and IoT. Additionally, we have cultivated research students as future potential key elites. Through international collaboration with top scholars, we can compromise advantages from both sides to escalate international academic impacts. The bi-directional international research activities contain joint journal and transaction publications with high cited scholars, short-term research exchange assignment for PhD students to Soton institute, and co-advise graduate students with international universities. Our partners include Prof. Lie-Liang Yang, Prof. Lajos Hanzo, and Prof. Robert G Maunder from Soton, England; Prof. Zhi Ding from University of California, Davis (UCD) in America; Prof. Seshan Srirangarajan from Indian Institutes of Technology Delhi (IIT-Delhi) in India.
Soton provides NCTU team the reflective intelligent surface (RIS) technology to achieve international collaboration funding on MoST 5G/B5G Wireless Networking Technology Special Project. Furthermore, NCTU team cooperates with IITD having joint NCTU-IITD PhD degree program and project of high-precision mmWave radar angle-of-arrival (AoA) tracking technology and wireless positioning platform. Based on this project, we are applying MoST MAGIC Funding for international collaboration. Additionally, we have long-term research cooperation with UCD and bi-directional summer visit for research students co-developing cross-layer PHY/MAC machine learning techniques. During this international collaboration in 2019-2020, we have achieved the followings:
- Two research students are assigned for short-term exchange to Soton
- One UCD student conducts summer research visiting to NCTU
- Finish signing NCTU-IITD research cooperation MOU and initiating joint NCTU-IITD PhD degree program
- Published papers with high impact factor with top scholars: 3 international journals and transactions, 1 international conference
NCTU team is still cooperating with Soton, IITD and UCD having 4 journal and transactions in preparations. NCTU team stay periodic con-calls with top scholars in Soton and IITD.
